I will say that as far as menu music goes, WWE '12 got it right. It was instrumental, it was fairly ambient, and it was not very loud. It didn't get in the way, but it still gave off a nice "menu-like" feeling.
Loud, annoying pop 40 songs get really irritating when they play over menu's because you hear them over and over and over and over again.
It was by far, my least favorite thing about the entire Smackdown vs Raw franchise. Most of those songs SUUUCK and even the ones that didn't suck got annoying after a while.
Actually, I'm against menu music having lyrics in it, in general. It's, like, a scientific fact that when a menu song has lyrics in it, it, by nature, gets repetitive and goddamn annoying.
I think it's because when you replay a song a million times when you're trying to pay attention to something else, the human mind registers lyrics in a way, that get really fucking old, really fucking fast.
Especially when it has screaming in it, or people screaming the words.
I can't remember whether it was SvR07 or 08, but those had the WORST menu music in any video game ever. I think the absolute lowest point was that FUCKING song, I don't know the one, that went something like...
(NOTE: A little research shows it was this awful fucking song from SvR2006...

.....ok, "Unretrofied" from SvR06, this was the absolute worst song in the history of the SvR games. Everytime it gets to this whiny little fuckface SCREAMING that bridge section, or whatever the hell it is, I just wanted to punch the screen and scream "SHUT THE FUCK UP."
Seriously. Fast forward to 2:58 in that video. Fuck this song and fuck that part most of all. I can't STAND 2:58 in this song. -_- Just SCREAMING this blithering nonsense. It makes me cringe and get annoyed everytime. I don't think I've ever gotten through that part of the song without making a sour face, like "ewww. Stop please. Just stop."
I can't stand these whiny, melodramatic chord songs with whiny fuckers screaming about how tortured and miserable their life is. This was the song that pretty much got all of my rage, and was the song that made me turn the volume just completely OFF.
And then there was the game with all the rap songs. Granted I actually like some good rap music, but that was some of the cheesiest, sloppiest, bullshit rap I'd ever heard. I'm pretty sure it was by the same nobody little asshole that assisted John Cena on his album.
Also, "Monster" in SvR, I think... uh.. 10 I think... or was it 09? Was really irritating, too.
And then there were the games that just played Superstar themes. Those weren't TOO bad, except, (and I think this proves my "lyrics are repetitive and annoying in menus theory)....
....Cody Rhodes's "Smoke and Mirrors" played so often, that I think everyone got sick of hearing it ever again, just for being in that game. Legacy's theme also grated on the nerve, simply because it was repeated ad nausuem in a WWE video game.
I honestly think that's why they eventually gave him a new song when he returned from the "Cody Rhodes surgical mask gimmick". Because that fucking game soundtrack.
So I honestly hope that the music for the menu's this year are like WWE '12, again. I really do.
Nice, understated, moody, background tunes at a low volume that don't get in the way or irritate me.
It just needs to do the bare minimum of what it's there to do and not overstay it's welcome.
