...yes, it's finally arrived. Well, it will have tomorrow! The omens are good - tomorrow is 11-11-11, which is Elf-Elf-Elf in German! - and it's my chance to be the dragon-souled elf warrior-mage that I always knew I was! Wink It might mean a few less posts, certainly over the weekend, but I shall return!

I intend to ring his mobile a least once every 20 minutes all weekend, just to distract him.

* Remembers that he forgot to pack his notebook and bus pass, and so returns from distance. Decides he had better feed the cat while he's here. Clears up when cat knocks bowl of food across kitchen floor. Goes to leave for the distance again. Notices note on fridge from Helen that he needs to buy milk. Goes off into the distance again. Wonders if he remembered to lock the door so comes back to check. Notes that Gardener's World is on in 15 minutes .... decides to forget questing for the day and resolves to try it again tomorrow*

It turns out my laptop would run Skyrim nicely on medium detail settings, which is a pleasant surprise.

Myron, how's the game so far?

I'm more after his opinion on how the game plays. I don't want to know specific things he's done in the game that are part of the story.

No, that's fair enough. Just throwing up the flag now though, just in case.

Don't worry, I'm not giving out spoilers.

The game is amazing. When people said that it had taken the best of the last two games in the series (Morrowind and Oblivion) and added bits of New Vegas you could have been forgiven for thinking that it's just company waffle. But it really does live up to that.

It looks amazing, with fantastic detail (my avatar is the character I'm playing) and the controls are easy enough to pick up (there have been some tweaks but nothing that you can't easily see).

I also think they've made the world more real. The conversations are better, the quests are better and it's just an improvement. Being able to utilise both hands (for more than just a shield or torch in the left one) really makes for fun. And the magic looks like magic now!

Can't wait to play it! I may have to play it on the medium detail settings just to get myself started on it.

My God, this game is addictive! I started playing it for the first time at about 6:30pm, and have only just stopped playing it now because I realised what the time was.

AC: Revelations came through on Tuesday and I've played a few hours on it so far. Seems to be the same formula as Brotherhood: a big city (Constantinople instead of Rome) with hidden treasure, turf wars involving killing a captain and climbing a tower, buying upgrades to weapons, armour, shops, clothes etc. So far I've only played a little of story mode but I've unlocked the hookblade which allows you to zipwire around Constantinople, and luckily you don't lose your weapons from the last game except the second hidden blade which you re-acquire after a short time anyway.

A new addition is this mode where you stand on a rooftop and play the part of a military commander, directing the troops, building barriers and shooting bad guys. I had a quick go but wasn't too keen, maybe it will grow on me. As far as huge packs of enemies are concerned I prefer the all-guns-blazing approach

While the game doesn't seem particularly innovative (at this stage) it's just like a re-hash of Brotherhood but just furthering the storyline. It's an interesting story, plays well, good sounds, good controls, it's a winning formula. If they don't change the way the game works next time it will probably get quite stale but this is definately worth a pop if you enjoyed the other titles in the series. I'd stay this game would get 8.5/10. Winning formula, great game, but nothing new (so far).

And tomorrow: Saint's Row 3 Very Happy

Skyrim seems pretty popular, it's all I'm seeing on Facebook at the moment. But like I said, doen't really interest me a whole lot so I'll stick with what I got at the moment.

Probably should have put this in the "games games games" thread but never mind...
