While puchasing a new copy of Dragon Age 2 on Friday (the original being the fallout in a manly wrestling match between two of our cats and them crashing into the Xbox while the disk was playing...) we managed to pick up a copy of the Battlestar Galactica series. No, not the new 'gritty' (or pouty) version. But the original classic. All 24 lovely episodes, many of which will be watched today, for £15...bargain!

We didn't buy Galactica 1980, even though it was also there. Because there's lows even I won't go to! Now I just have to get the Buck Rodgers box set....

I was going to ask why you'd bought another copy. I forgot about Harry doing his Sin Cara impresion....

...hmm, there's an idea. Mini wrestling masks for cats.

Well I got up early this morning and washed the car before it got too hot. Now I feel having done my good deed I can spend the day with FIFA, the WCW Nitro DVD, and cold beer.

I do actually have a Mexican wrestling mask. Bit big for Harry, mind. He's been practising his high risk stuff mind!

I just ordered the Very Best of WCW Nitro DVD... £16.99 the cheapest I found on ebay. Hope it's good!

I can say that it is. It won't disapoint. Well, I'm pretty sure it won't.

There is a some substantial stuff missing from it, but there was a LOT of Nitro to go around.

When you watch it, think of it as "WCW Abridged", as that is basically what it is.

Some things, they only touch on, rather than give every single bit of history about it, such as the nWo Wolfpack and nWo Hollywood split.

Also, they seem to start breezing through WCW post 2000, but that's ok, since WCW post 2000 sucked. Razz

They don't feature MAJOR step by step recollections of everything that happened in the Cruiserweight division, but they do mention it's importance and feature several good lucha matches.

But for the most part, it's quite a good history lesson.

You may notice, however, that they don't feature anything from any PPV's or Thunder. It's strictly Monday Night's.

Which means that for instance, you won't see the very night that Hogan defected to the nWo, but you do get it recapped.

There are no interviews or the like, aside from DDP's hosting and recollections. But that's good, since it's more of a straightforward "Watch these moments as they were, and draw your own conclusions" kind of "stand back and just put the footage on DVD" approach, which I appreciated.

Lastly, during the 4 Horsemen reunion section, Benoit is shown. They do not cut him out from the celebration, and they do not bleep his name when Flair refers to him.

I was surprised by this.

However, there are 2 other sections on the DVD, where Benoit crowd signs are blurred out. But seeing as one seems to say "Benoit Rocks", that might seem like a justified cut. Acknowledging his existence is one thing. Heaping praise on him is another.

Lastly, Diamond Dallas Page is an EXCELLENT host for the DVD. So happy they got him to be a part of it. He was, after all, one of the few, and in fact, maybe the only, member of WCW to stay since it's inception to it's final night of broadcast. I might be wrong.

I'm enjoying it so far. I think if you combine it with the Monday Night Wars and nWo DVDs, you have a pretty nice retrospective.

However, i do wish WWE would produce some "Tagged Classics" of old WCW PPVs

Nice, it sounds good. TBH Mike I got to agree that post 2000 WCW was pretty much a pile of wank, no matter how matter how much of a WCW junkie I was. I'm looking forward to it.

Unfortunately I'm pretty sure there wasn't any way for us UK'ers to watch WCW PPV's... was there? I'd like to see some but I'm not paying a few quid for a video tape of it, I don't even think we've got a VHS player anymore Razz

In the old days of Sky Analogue when you could tune your receiver box and install channels, you could tune in the German channel that used to show WCW PPVs, which is how I watched a lot of the ones from the early and mid 90s. Sadly you can't really do it so easily now with Sky HD unless you know the various frequences, and I'm not even sure the channel still operates.

A lot of them were released on VHS over here. I remember Our Price video (remember them) near me having a big clearance sale one weekend and I swept in and bought about 20 WCW tapes for £1 each.

Only threw them out a couple of years ago when I binned the VHS player.

Lol, not only does the channel probably no longer exist, but remember that WCW no longer exists so there won't be any PPV's to watch anyway Very Happy

You see the tapes on ebay occasionally, I dunno if they ever released DVD's. WWE will probably release some kind of anthology somewhere down the line when they want a bit more money. That's what I'm banking on anyway Razz

Good point Jordan!

Actually, not all WCW sucked from 2000 on. I really quite enjoyed the Nitro broadcast they did from the London Arena where I was in the 2nd or third row. The first wrestling show Matt and I went to together, and actually the first one he saw live.

Some point to David Arqueette's title run as the lowest moment in WCW.

I beg to differ.

For me, it was all over when Russo appeared on camera, and then subsequently booked more TV time for himself, than half of everyone else competing every week.

Oh and when they decided it would be a marvelous idea to hire some fat-ass turntable DJ to get up there on the giant letters, and flip records like a fry cook.

I wish I was about 6 years older in 1996 so I could fully appreciate WCW for how good it was at it's peak. There were't that many moments I thought were terrible. The David Arquette affair was pretty atrocious I have to say but I think Russo on camera might have just been as bad.
