| So, I watched the first episode of the new NXT last week.
I actually like the format of the show. For me, this is much more what NXT always needed to be about. Put the younger less experienced guys out there in a smaller arena, let them work matches, and let them develop characters. Educate the fans about who and what they are, and then let them gain some more experience of working the crowd. Gives them a chance to see what works and what doesn't, and make adjustments, before you throw them into a RAW or Smackdown show. No gimmicks, no stupid contests or other stuff which doesn't show them as wrestlers, just get them out there in front of a crowd and let them develop. Essentially, run the show like the territorial indy leagues the WWE did its best to wipe out.
Its nice that the show feels very different to other WWE shows. Simpler production, simpler visuals, and in Ross and Regal, two commentators who actually take the time to educate the audience about the wrestlers and get them over, rather than ignoring the match to hype the main storyline or the latest twitter feeds, as they do on RAW and Smackdown.
I think there is much to like in this show.
One thing that I did notice though. There's a tag team called "The Ascension". Dark gothic overtones. One guy smaller with long hair, a taste for outlandish clothes, and a penchant for showing off. The other guy larger, more a powerhouse. Wears a long leather coat to the ring and has really penetrating light blue eyes....
...Now, I'm SURE, I've seen a tag team like that somewhere before......hmmmm......

| What channel is NXT on? If we have it I'll give it a pop!
Lol about The Ascension, Vince McMahon (or "Wheato" as his online alias) stikes again

| Its one of the Sky Sports ones, usually whichever one is showing RAW. They have WWE Vintage, WWE NXT, and RAW one after the other.
I like The Ascension for the fact that they are an actual tag team, which is rare these days. They need better names, and a more dynamic finish, and the big guy needs to snarl less, but the gimmick has potential and the "We will rise" tagline works for me.

| I was trying to remember the different versions of the "Stroke of Midnight" that we used as a finisher. I know in one version it was a superplex and springboard legdrop, and in another it was a superpowerbomb combination springboard diamond cutter.
Think the former could work for them as a finish.

| Yeah, they tried being called "The Fabulous Baking Boys" but someone had already taken it. | |

| Yeah, I actually saw an unauthorized youtube stream of the new NXT. I also like it. A lot, actually. I completely agree that this is precisely what NXT should have been AGES ago. I LOVE J.R and Regal on commentary. I love the set they use. I use the little, modest arena of a few dozen people that feels like an indie show. And I rather like all the new talent. Well, most of them. I also saw The Ascension on the first episode. My first thought was immediately "HAHAHA It's DAVID AND MYRON HAHAHAHA." No doubt. However, notice that I said "unauthorized stream". Because yeah, WWE in their infinite wisdom finally makes a good NXT worth watching, and they DROP it from their official channel and refuse to show it anywhere on TV where an american can see it. It airs on UK's Sky Sports. But for the US? It airs fuck all at nothing o'clock. I swear to god I can't win for losing with the WWE, anymore. | |

| Don't the WWE still show it on some localised nothing two bit channel in Florida though? (which I know is no use to you).
Seems bizarre to me that this finally has the potential to be a good farm league where new talent can be introduced to a crowd, and they choose not to show it to the audience that you would want to accept the talent in question.

| It's done as a webcast on wwe.com for people in the US and still televised outside of it. I guess they are spreading into other media. | |
