Saw via the WWE's Facebook feed this morning that the 2nd DLC pack for Smackdown, featuring Bulldog, Luger, and the Nexus, will be released on 21 December (i.e. next Tuesday).

cheers

Last week David Otunga said that unless Wade Barrett reinstated Cena, Wade would be thrown out of Nexus and they'd go on without him.

This week, Wade reinstated Cena, challenged him to a match at the PPV, and then made Cena .v. Otunga for later than night. Nexus then battered Cena with a chair.

Later that evening, show no effects from the chair whatsoever, Cena battered Otunga in under two minutes.

HOORAY FOR TERRIBLE BOOKING!! cheers

I swear to god, WWE. Are you seriously trying to out-suck TNA now? Because it certainly looks that way.

I'm surprised that they don't just throw in "random Nexus Dance Party" every 5 minutes in between the continued angle. Like just have Cena, Wade, Otunga, Gabriel and the other guys suddenly start getting down and raving for 4 minutes with flashing lights in between each match and promo.

Because that would obviously add a lot to the TOTAL COHERENT SENSE AND ORDER THAT THIS STORY IS MAKING.

I love how:

1. Survivor Series is rendered absolutely irrelevant. As if it wasn't rendered immediately irrelevant enough the next week. Cena? Fired? Out of Nexus? When did that happen? Pshaw. You must have imagined it.

2. SuperCena is back. Like nothing ever happened. Meanwhile Nexus continues to be the G1 Decepticons on drugs.

3. What's going on anymore? It's like they keep saying "ok, now this will happen.." and then rewinding back to three scenes and going "No wait, THIS should happen, yeah!" and then rewinding and then trying something else that won't work. MAKE UP YOUR MIND AND BOOK A COHERENT STORY THAT GOES SOMEWHERE.

Are there serious arguments in the writers room right now about where this is going? Because right now, it sounds like the writers are a deadlocked jury that have no idea what this Nexus thing is supposed to do, and where Cena fits into it, and keeps going around in a circle like a joint-passing storybook session.

I do think they have ruined the potential this had to make them a lot of money and be a major shot in the arm for the company. Had they booked Nexus strong, kept Cena off TV, and made Wade champ until Cena returned at, say, the Rumble, then it could have been huge. It could have reinvigorated the main event scene, and would have kept Cena as someone the crowd wanted to see.

Alternatively, as we discussed before, a heel Cena had all sorts of potential.

WWE doesn't seem to be able to do anything in proper enough moderation to figure out how it works, it feels like.

The problem is, I think they've never learned the proper balance and amount between the "yay" vs "boo" factor that audiences can put up with, or expect for dramatic tension.

Years before, they let the heels run over the good guys for 6 - 8 months straight without end. I believe it was called "The McMahon/Helmsley Era" with HHH and Stephanie and quite honestly ran it into the ground.

And for as much as I like the later years of the Attitude Era, the consistent destruction of any substantial face victory for over half a year felt like way too much at times. At least when WCW did the nWo there was enough "give and take" for it to feel like a real war.

And then by contrast, there's The Nexus. Where they can't have the bad guys be a major threat for longer than 15 minutes, because they're too concerned with "upsetting the kids".

I was loving it when the kids on the internet were incensed so much with Nexus over getting Cena fired, that they started saying "I wanna kill Nexus omg they suck i'd kick their ass if I saw them!". I think WWE saw this and immediately backtracked, and were somehow terrified that people were MAD at their heels, and instantly seemed to say "Ok, we went too far, hurry, bring Cena back we need to sell shirts!!"

Despite the fact that i'm sure they would have sold more Cena shirts from shell-shocked kids and sold more things like The Nexus in the video game, or Nexus Mattel figurines, so people can "beat them up" and turn them into Vance Archer's jobber.

It's almost like your strength as a heel in WWE right now is only determined by "what a funny jerk" you can be, and not that they really do anything horrible or controversial... like... KEEP your #1 guy fired, or put him on the shelf or something.

Which is one of the main reasons that I continue to be against this WWE PG Era. It's like they are too concerned with keeping the storylines too much like 80's cartoon logic.

Yeah, some guys like Miz, can take the "hee hee hee I am a meanie and I'm going to ruin your day!" thing and run a marathon with it, but you can't expect EVERY heel to play the same character.

Either the "bad guys" are silly, incompetent, fight with each other too much, or are just a bunch of "meanies" and "backstabbers", or always have their plans foiled just to run away like "We'll get you next time, Gadget... next time.. rrraawwr!"

And right now., Nexus is the poorest man's nWo right now. And as i've said, they are pretty much the G1 Decepticons from the Transformers cartoon right now.

I mean, you could pretty much rename Wade Barret to "Megatron", David Otunga to "Starscream" and all the other members are the "other bad guy toys" right now and it wouldn't make a difference.

the problem is, live action, trying to be taken seriously dosn't work within the "booked card" style of Wrestling, where bad guys have to not just be a bunch of mean losers who get foiled in every episode. You have to make them look strong, too.

Of course that's impossible when "Cenatimus Prime" steamrolls everyone by default because he's the hero Cartoon John Wayne.

WWE is too much for kids now, and as such, they feel that WWE has to operate in 80's Cartoon Logic. When wrestling isn't made to work that way.

"At least when WCW did the nWo there was enough "give and take" for it to feel like a real war."

Suspect Really? You honestly think that?

Because as far as I remember, the key failing of the nWo angle was the lack of balance. WCW booked the nWo to look like superstars and WCW wrestlers to look like schmucks who always got their asses kicked. It was one of the most one-sided things in the history of the business, and a key part of what killed the company.

Well, maybe I should say "the first half" of it.

But when the nWo became an army full of jobbers to the point where they needed to have two separate theme musics.... (And i'm talking about "nWo Real" and "nWo generic Jobber", not "nWo" and "Wolfpack", though I never got the exact point of the Wolfpack other than for Nash to get himself over.)

....Yeah, overkill X 50, then. But I always convienatly forget that point, becuase that was when I stopped liking WCW, around the time of them getting that terrible silver set and the hood ornament logo.

But it started off, nice, at least. Razz

Yeah, they really dropped the ball with Nexus man. It started off pretty strong. Had alot of interest but now when they really need everyones attention for the big climax of the angle it's just lame. The whole Cena being fired had all the potential in the world but they just pooped on it hard. They still could have done him "infiltrating" the show and everything but if they would have just paid attention to the minor details like.....not playing his theme music for one.....it could have been good. But now he's rehired after two weeks and its Cena vs Barret in a chairs match.

WTF is a chairs match anyway? A match where you get to use chairs? Sounds dumb.

Knowing WWE, THAT is going to be the climax of this summer/fall angle. Because yesterday on Raw (spoiler alert, although how can I spoil something nobody cares about lol)

Nexus walked out on Otunga while Cena was beating him up with a chair. So were probably going to see that God awful Barret/Otunga feud we've all been dreading.

Just shoot me now.

David Otunga is nowhere near ready to be in the position he is, but of course because he happens to be married to a minor celebrity, that's good enough for WWE to push him to the moon. What they fail to realise is that the crowd hates him - and not in the genuine heel heat way they have managed to make people hate Barrett, but in the X-Pac "I want this guy to land on his head" sort of way - and they will never in a million years cheer for him.

WWE just seems to go out of its way to be obtuse and non-sensical at times. Take another thing on Monday's RAW, they kept going on about David Arquette being a former WCW World champion. Fine, you mention it once, you get the cheap laugh, you move on, but it was hammered home time and time again about how he was WCW champion, and the message was clear "Look, look at him, this was the sort of person WCW made champion. Look and laugh at how worthless they were".

Now if the WWE had any brains at all, they would look at the huge feck off tape library they have of WCW shows, and the appeal of nostaligia fests like the old school RAW, and they'd think "You know, if we put some effort into promoting WCW as an important time in the history of the business, something worth seeing, a proving ground for talent that eventually made it here (Eddie, Jericho, Rey, Taker, Austin, Edge, HHH, Flair, the list goes on and on) or legends to continue, etc etc, then we could make a shed load of money releasing old WCW PPVs, best of Nitro DVDs, maybe even a special WCW themed PPV". Instead, just as they did when they screwed up the WCW Invasion angle, they can't seem to put ego aside for a single moment. Its so monumentally stupid. And you see it on a smaller scale time and time again with these angles where they seem determined not to give the fans what they want.

Oh, and going back to the nWo, in the very early stages it was fine. It was very well booked and absolutely right to put them over as monsters. Make them look unstoppable. But then you have your top face chip away at them. Maybe he gets knocked back slightly along the way, but eventually he faces them and the face wins. Booking 101. Instead, WCW just either had the face job to the heels, regardless of how big a face it was, or had the face decide to join them. If you don't have a top level face to oppose them, a heel is pointless. Once the nWo got the point of being pointless, it feel apart and then became diluted with the jobbers.
